Task 2: Project Proposal
Process & Presentation (Pair - Naura & Natania)
28 May 2025 – Brainstorming
Naura and I had a two-hour discussion call to finalize our core idea and start our Task 2 proposal. We decided to move forward with the RoomSketch idea (temporarily called 'Mr Razif's Dreamhouse'). During the session, we did the following:
-
Implement existing knowledge into a shared Canva file and list out different aspects of the proposal that we need to figure out such as (Ais, Target Audience, etc.)

| Fig 1. Our element (the Apple!!) |
-
Brainstorm the app's visual theme and main elements through a shared Pinterest board
- Settled on a Retro Gradient theme and chose this Apple as our element
- Apples symbolize The Beginning in many different cultures
- Retro Gradient themes have a lot of grain texture and incorporate different colors
- This apple image represents what we want in the application (creativity, the start of something new, artistic representation) -
Come up with a list of questions to ask Mr Razif for consultation the following day as there were some things we were unsure about.
- How does our user persona have to be?
- Would our project be marker-less or marker-based?
- Is it possible to 'save rooms' for our AR app?
- When is the due date?
29 May 2025 – Consultation
We developed our initial experience flow and defined our scope and limitations. We also had a consultation session with Mr. Razif, where we clarified the following:
Key Clarifications:
-
User Persona & Journey:
-
No need for real questionnaires as these are just hypothetical personas based on ourselves or people we know.
-
-
Marker-based vs Marker-less AR for our project:
-
Marker-based AR is easier and more stable.
-
Marker-less (plane detection) using Unity AR Foundation is more advanced but possible.
-
Vuforia is preferred for easier ground-plane use, but it doesn't support vertical surface detection.
-
-
Scope Simplification:
-
Mr. Razif advised us to narrow our focus to wall-based elements only.
-
This includes doors, mirrors, curtains, wainscoting, etc.
-
-
Design Themes:
-
We’re exploring presets like “Cottagecore,” “Minimalist,” and “Industrial.”
-
These would swap out 3D models accordingly.
-
-
Room Saving Mechanism:
-
Saving room configurations is possible, but only relative to each other, not anchored to the physical space unless room scanning is implemented.
-
-
Room Scanning (Advanced Option):
-
We were encouraged to experiment with mobile room scanning before deciding it’s too complex.
-
Real-world example: a German student group achieved this in 2 days.
-
-
Prototype Expectations:
-
Functionality over visuals.
-
A working demo is better than a polished concept.
-
-
Figma vs Unity Prototyping:
-
Figma is for screen flows examples; Unity is for the AR prototype.
-
We clarified that these serve different purposes and should not be confused.
-
30 May 2025 – Theme Selection & Mockup Design
We had a short follow-up call to:
-
Finalize theme direction for our design variations
-
Define user persona traits for our proposal
-
I also created a newer and (hopefully) improved mockup to visualize how the AR partition placement might look
